When the U.S. Coast Guard went to sell off Thomas Point Light, just to the southeast of Annapolis, MD, the future of the single-most historic lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay was put at risk. Fortunately, a mix of public and private funders in Annapolis stepped up to take over maintenance of the last working screwpile lighthouse on the bay, and save one of the most indelible images of the Chesapeake.
