About…

Bearboat is strongly built, very stable,  “a bit of a pig” in light air, but loves a gale. It endures abuse well, is tough and dependable, and likes to roam: It’s a bear of a boat!

This blog highlights the travels of both Bearboat and its crew, in published articles, photos, and posts.

Bearboat is 30 years old (2013). It’s the smallest model Island Packet ever made and has sailed 3,000+ miles with its current owners, from Delaware Bay, NJ, to Albemarle Sound, NC — and the entire Chesapeake Bay in between.

Vitals: 30′ LOA, 26′-2″ LOD, Beam:10′-6″. Displacement: 8,000#. Sail area: 400 sqft. Engine: Yanmar 2 GM (13 hp).
